Cocktail Bars

Philosophy: Cocktails are an art form. And just like paintings, they have changed over the years. Some people prefer modern art while others prefer Renaissance. There is a lot being done to elevate and innovate in the world of cocktails. Me, I prefer the classics, or the classics with a modern twist. Many places focus on creating something truly unique. While I appreciate the art form, the level of abstraction is sometimes too much for me. I find the result just doesn't come together in what I would consider a phenomenal expression.   Recommendations: I give my recommendations on bars very differently than I do restaurants. I find most quality bars in any given city have a similar price point. Therefore, price is not a factor in my recommendation. So taste is the most important factor. Of course I enjoy when things look nice, are very artful, there's good service, nice ambiance, use unique and/or rare ingredients, all of the things that make for an enjoyable and memorable experience. However, people's opinions for these things vary more widely than taste. Even my own opinion for these things vary from day to day, as sometimes I may be looking for a quiet bar with relaxing service and other times a more lively place with quicker service. However, my perception of quality does not change.  Acknowledging bias: I like to give bars their fair shot. As I mentioned I enjoy the classics. So when evaluating a bar, I will try one of their signature creations, specifically their rendition of a classic if they have one. However, if they focus only on the abstract, then I will try that and then likely ask off menu for their interpretation on a classic. Lists: I run my life of travel through google maps. I find it is the easiest medium to store, route, and manage the complexity which is the constantly evolving food and beverage industry. I have created these lists for you to share.
